Spring spruce up for Mazda supermini

Mazda has spruced up its smallest model, with the Mazda2 supermini sporting some styling changes and new trim levels.

It's up front that the styling changes are most noticeable, with a new bumper and grille creating a markedly different “face” for the compact 2.

Four specifications are available - Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line and Homura Aka. Homura and Homura Aka are aimed at those who want a sportier look to things, with a black grille and wing mirrors, as well as larger alloy wheels. Centre-Line is the entry level to the range, while Exclusive-Line is intended to be a premium supermini. There are new decorative dash panels fitted inside, while two fresh colour options are available - Aero Grey and Air Stream Blue.

Last year, Mazda revealed an improved 1.5 litre petrol engine, which is carried over to the 2023 Mazda2. The powertrain line-up is entirely made up of petrol units, though there's a Mazda2 Hybrid which is a rebadged Toyota Yaris that features a conventional hybrid system.

The engines start with a 75hp unit, available in Centre-Line trim, with a 90hp option also available from the lowest trim level. Further up the range, the 90hp engine is complemented by a 115hp unit. The 90hp engine is available with either a manual or automatic gearbox, and all but the 75hp are mild hybrid engines.
