Toyota Prius is back in business
Toyota is returning its iconic Prius to the UK market as an updated plug-in hybrid, or PHEV model.
The launch range comes in two variants – Design and Excel – both powered by a 2.0-litre engine combined with a 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery, giving the car an electric-only range of more than 50 miles.
The updated model is based on a new global Toyota platform, which brings reduced weight, a stiffer chassis, and lower centre of gravity to improve handling.
The Design specification offers 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, the Toyota Smart Connect+ multimedia system with both cloud-based and on-board navigation, digital dashboard, parking sensors, dual-zone air conditioning, and a wealth of active safety systems.
The Excel adds 19-inch wheels, eight-way power adjustable front seats with memory setting, digital rear-view mirror, and powered hatchback door.
Toyota kick-started the EV revolution in 1997 with the original Prius, which has since racked up 20 million sales globally.
