New XPeng G6 set for UK launch early next year

If you’re a regular reader you may recall us mentioning the wave of new Chinese brands that are gradually expanding their presence in the European market. In the current climate – no pun intended – EV sales are becoming an ever-bigger deal as manufacturers grapple with the shift towards the new technology.

Chinese carmakers have successfully positioned themselves amongst the world leaders when it comes to the development and production of electric vehicles, and Xpeng is the latest to announce a new partnership that will see its cars on sale in the UK early next year and available to lease from Gateway2Lease.

XPeng highlighted the UK as a key market in the development of the brand, and it has now announced an agreement with International Motors Ltd (IML), one of the largest distributors for automotive manufacturers in the UK, Irish and Northern European markets.

Founded in 2014 in Guangzhou, China, XPeng describes itself as a global smart electric vehicle company developing clean, intuitive, and creative mobility solutions. While that may sound a bit like fancy marketing speak, it doesn’t change the fact that Xpeng has quickly established itself as one of China’s leading high-tech car companies. It boasts industry-leading R&D facilities and prides itself on the superior safety, electrical efficiency, and on-road performance across its whole range of vehicles.

According to Alex Tang, Head of International business at Xpeng, "We are excited to introduce UK consumers to a new standard in electric mobility, combining innovative technology with exceptional design to deliver an unparalleled experience that meets the demands of today's drivers. With a vision for AI-defined mobility, we aim to revolutionize the driving experience in the UK, making it safer, smarter, more sustainable and more pleasant in the near future."

With nearly 50 years of experience as a distributor partner for the likes of Subaru and Isuzu along with GWM and Mitsubishi Motors, International Motors Ltd (IML) looks to be the ideal partner for XPeng’s entry into the UK market. In fact, IML has already been working with XPeng for some time, and they provided valuable insight and assistance with the UK debut of the XPeng G6 at the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year.

And the G6 will ultimately be the first of the brand’s cars to go on sale in the UK with both parties anticipating a launch in early 2025.

What sort of car is the XPeng G6?

The XPeng G6 is a mid-size ultra-smart coupe SUV. It boasts the latest EV technology with industry-leading capabilities, including 800-volt supercharging and an extended driving range.

Specifically tailored for the European markets, the G6 is set to offer a fantastic driving experience alongside a comfortable and refined interior that features state of the art technology. The fact that the XPeng G6 has recently been awarded a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating is also worth mentioning too.

Its sporty and aerodynamic design and sloping roofline promise a stylish addition to any driveway, and the 800v technology and latest battery technology should translate to a real-world range in the region of 340 miles and 10-80% charge times of around 20 minutes.

The interior is roomy and comfortable with space for five people. According to XPeng, standard interior equipment for the G6 includes a 10.2-inch central touchscreen running the latest operating system, panoramic roof, heated and ventilated leather seats, four USB ports and two 50w wireless charging points, and a 960W sound system with 18 speakers and a wide range of downloadable apps to choose from.

It’s also likely you’ll have a choice of a rear-wheel drive single-motor option with around 250bhp, or an all-wheel drive performance version with more than 470bhp that can hit 60mph in under 4 seconds. So, exhilarating performance also comes as standard.

We may not be able to tell you every detail about the XPeng G6 just yet, but in a few short months that situation is inevitably going to change. What we can take an educated guess at though, is that when the G6 launches in the UK next year it’s likely to feature very prominently on the list of anyone looking to lease an EV, and for very good reason too.
