New Kia EV3 named Electrifying.com’s Car of the Year
Being voted Electrifying.com Car of the Year is quite an achievement. It’s even more impressive when the car in question has been on sale for about 5 minutes and the first customer deliveries aren’t even due for another few weeks. All of which appears to suggest that the new Kia EV3 is a stupendously brilliant car and you should really consider leasing one.
The annual Electrifying.com Awards are judged by an expert team of road testers, with awards given to the most significant electric vehicles and innovations. The panel of judges praised the EV3’s stylish design, long driving range, and incredible value for money.
Following in the footsteps of its larger sibling, the EV9, which was named Large Electric Family Car of the Year at last year’s ceremony, the new Kia EV3 has now gone one better in being named overall Car of the Year for 2024.
Kia brand - “innovative and exciting”
Ginny Buckley, Founder and CEO of Electrifying.com, said: “As the electric experts we consider Kia to be one of the most innovative and exciting car brands around, and we believe the EV3 is a game-changer in the electric car market. In terms of style, range, space, tech, and sheer value for money, it stands head and shoulders above everything else in its class. We think the EV3 will give buyers new to electric cars the confidence they need to make the switch, and it’s the clear winner of our Car of the Year title for 2024.”
Funnily enough, it’s probably those exact qualities that are equally likely to have helped the Kia EV3 also bag a spot on the shortlist for the final round of the 2025 European Car of the Year award. That makes it the fourth consecutive year Kia has featured on the final shortlist and the sixth time in the last eight years. And no doubt there are equally high hopes in Kia HQ that the EV3 can emulate the success of the EV6 which took the title in 2022, when the winner is announced at the Brussels Motor Show on January 10, next year.
That’s an awful lot of fuss for a car that’s barely even arrived in the UK yet. At least it would be if it weren’t just further proof that Kia really does know what it’s doing.
What do you get with the Kia EV3?
The new Kia EV3 utilises fourth-generation battery cell technology to provide an incredible range and fast charging. Available with two battery options, the larger battery boasts a range of around 375 miles, which is enough to get you from London to Scotland on a single charge. Clever technology and aerodynamic efficiency combine to maximise the power stored in the battery and make pretty much every journey convenient and comfortable.
Even if you do have to stop to recharge the battery, the Kia EV3’s fast-charging capability means a 10-80% charge can be achieved in around 30 mins. If that’s going to slow your journey too much for your liking you can just as easily add around 100 miles of range in the time it takes to nip to the toilet and grab a coffee on the way back to the car. The EV3 will even precondition the battery for charging before you arrive at the charger in question, and Kia’s Plug and Charge function allows you to connect to a compatible charger and top up your battery without having to mess around accessing apps or tapping your card to pay.
It’s a similarly high-tech story inside the Kia EV3 too.
Two 12.3-inch screens and a smaller 5-inch display merge into an almost 30-inch combined widescreen that extends from the driver’s display to the centre of the dashboard. This allows access to the entertainment and navigation features – assuming you choose not to use the built-in voice control – as well as smartphone connectivity so you can use your favourite apps on the move. The infotainment system also features over-the-air updates so you’ll always have the latest software as well as being able to download apps directly from Kia to personalise your EV3.
When you consider how much you get from the new Kia EV3 in terms of range and equipment levels, alongside the stylish looks, spacious compact-SUV practicality, and build quality, it doesn’t take a genius to predict that the awards are likely to keep on coming.
It also doesn’t take a genius to suggest that if you’re looking to lease yourself a new car, leasing the Kia EV3 should definitely feature quite high on your list of options.
