Hyundai goes big with new IONIQ 9

If you want space and yet more space for your next business car, then size up the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 9.

Unveiled in the US, where it will go on sale first, the exciting IONIQ 9 is also destined to come to the UK later in 2025.

A sister car to the already on sale Kia EV9 (it uses the same platform), the more streamlined IONIQ 9 offers company car drivers the option of seven seat configuration in what is the longest wheelbase Hyundai on the market.

What’s more, the 110.3 kWh battery version is promised to deliver a driving range of 385 miles while the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes, subject to final verification.

Space and comfort are definitely the keypoints of this ultimate IONIQ model, which will join the IONIQ 5 hatch and IONIQ 6 saloon models which are already available to lease.

A lounge-like interior can be configured with either six or seven seats, while a Panoramic Sunroof infuses natural light into the interior.

Hyundai says its Relaxation Seats - which include a massage function - in the first and second rows can be fully reclined to offer a leg rest for comfort, allowing up to four people to rest during vehicle charging (should you not be taking a coffee stop).

Second-row Swiveling Seats allow the second- and third-row occupants to face each other when the vehicle is stationary for offsite business meetings.

Among the ‘firsts’ for the IONIQ 9 is the introduction of aluminum bumpers and quarter panels to help lighten the car’s weight and assist additional range to the battery.

A new dual-motion active air flap (AAF) system further enhances air sealing and exterior appearance with flush body panels, while another first is the loss of a roof antenna, its function now divided between the windscreen (for GPS and satellite radio), the instrument panel (for Connected Car Services) and the tailgate glass (for FM/AM and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting).

It all contributes to a sleek and efficient newcomer in the business SUV sector, with pricing and UK spec likely to come in Quarter 3 of 2025.
