New Hyundai Ioniq 6 offers business drivers 379 mile range

Hyundai has revealed its latest electric car, the Ioniq 6. The all-electric saloon has a sleek shape and sits on Hyundai's latest EV platform to offer a range of up to 379 miles on a charge.

Set to compete against the likes of Tesla, Audi, and BMW, Hyundai's Ioniq 6 is the company's take on a premium saloon. Offered with a 53 kWh or 77 kWh battery and a choice of either rear or all-wheel drive, the maximum range available will be almost 380 miles on a charge.

Considering it is using the same battery and motor system as the Ioniq 5 crossover, which can travel up to 315 miles, it's clear the slippery shape of the Ioniq 6 makes a big difference to efficiency.

Charging speeds will be the same as the Ioniq 5 too, taking more than 200 kW DC for a 10-80% top up in fewer than 20 minutes. It features vehicle-to-load charging too, meaning you can connect a three-pin plug into its charging inlet to power domestic devices.

Power comes in at up to 324hp for the dual-motor version - though a concept version from Hyundai's N Performance department has already been showcased, which will see the Ioniq 6 cover the 0-62mph sprint in 5.1 seconds.

Inside, a similar clean and unfussy design as the Ioniq 5's has been used, which is excellent news. A large, twin-screen system for driver's instruments and infotainment system sits across two-thirds of the dashboard, but most other controls are kept to a slim panel on the centre console or down by the gear selector.

The Ioniq 6 is also likely to be offered with digital door mirrors, using screens inside to view behind the car, allowing for smaller, more aerodynamic rear-facing cameras rather than actual mirrors.

Prices are yet to be revealed, so we don't know the new Hyundai's leasing rates yet, but expect the Ioniq 6 to cost a similar amount per month as the Ioniq 5 when it is available in the UK, either later this year or in early 2023.
