New and improved MG HS SUV
Resting on your laurels clearly isn't something MG is prepared to do. Back in January the UK's best-selling car was the company's flagship SUV, the MG HS. By the time May rolled around it was declared obsolete as MG announced a brand-new 2023 model was on the way. Now MG, the fastest growing car brand in the UK, has revealed details of the new HS SUV, so if you're looking for your next lease car you should really pay attention to this one.
Following an extensive redesign, the new HS boasts a sharper appearance and updated specification, and all for the same price as the outgoing model.
The front of the new HS features bi-function LED headlights, a bold grille design and a new front bumper to create a more aggressive look befitting MG's largest, most luxurious SUV.
At the rear, a new bumper design, revised dual exhaust outlets, and LED taillights complete the styling update. There is also a striking new 18 inch diamond cut wheel design, and new Urban Grey finish has also been added to the mix of solid, metallic, and tri-coat options.
The new MG HS will be offered in two trim levels, SE and Trophy, that may have been borrowed from the award-winning MG4 EV that has proved immensely popular.
Both variants of the new HS SUV will be powered by a 1.5 litre, turbocharged petrol engine delivering around 160bhp, with an option for a dual clutch automatic gearbox to replace the manual that comes as standard. Regardless of trim you'll also get the MG Pilot safety package featuring emergency braking, lane assist, blind spot detection, and Intelligent High Beam Assist.
The new MG HS retains the same impressive degree of space and comfort found in the previous generation. The interior boasts high-quality, soft touch materials, and the 10.1 inch infotainment system has also been upgraded allowing faster and smoother functionality.
Entry-level SE specification includes bi-function LED headlights, air conditioning, satellite navigation, rear parking camera with sensors, rain sensing wipers, keyless entry, and a leather steering wheel as standard.
Trophy specification adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, rear privacy glass and an upgraded 6-speaker audio system.
MG will also retain the current plug-in hybrid HS PHEV alongside the new 2023 petrol models.
So there are plenty of options if you're looking for an affordable, high-quality SUV that also ticks some of those environmental boxes.
The previous generation MG HS has been hugely popular since launch, culminating in the feat of being the best-selling vehicle in January 2023. The updated models should build on that success, especially when you factor in the improved design and specification without an increase in pricing.
The MG HS delivers all the benefits of a high quality, comprehensively equipped, large SUV, for the same kind of price you'd expect from its smaller, more modestly equipped rivals. If you're seriously considering leasing a family-friendly SUV the new MG HS may well be the one to go for. You're pretty much guaranteed to get a lot more bang for your buck if you do.
