The UK's 9 Lowest Priced Electric Cars of 2024 So Far
Money’s too tight to mention, as the famous 1980s song goes. Feels like it could be an anthem for the current era with the cost-of-living crisis looming over all like the Sword of Damocles.
But we must fight fire with fire, and the way through an austere period is to move forward with your nose to the grindstone and tighten your belt at every corner. Gone are the days when we could all afford a fleet of cars to cover any situation, necessity or whim. No more shall we utter the words ‘just taking out the spare sports car for a whizz around the Cotswolds’ and sadly we won’t be able to pride ourselves on our pragmatic organisation by keeping our cars all stored in our slightly larger ones, like Russian dolls.
However, we can still all have a superb car, with great performance, at a great price. Our trusty steed to help us on the journey to prosperity is turning electric, and though prices seem higher than petrol and diesel models, there are still some great deals out there.
Gateway2Lease believes in helping people find their ideal wheels, so we have put together this guide on the nine lowest-priced electric car deals around. Each car has its brand-new price listed along with the best-found price for the latest used version on a well-known auction website. We have also included the value drop percentage once it hits the used market.
9. Citroen e-C4
The Citroen e-C4 is a fantastic five-door hatchback from French giants Citroen that focuses on comfort. You will not find all whistles and bells technology but you will have what you need, including LED headlights, a 10-inch infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and Citroen’s very own ‘Progressive Hydraulic Cushions’ suspension giving you a ride smoother than cool suntan lotion being applied by a speedo adorned man called Pierre on the beaches of the Cote D’Azur with Charles Trenet’s ‘La Mer’ charmingly played from a nearby bistro.

8. Mazda MX-30
The best things come in small packages, and this couldn’t be more apt for the Mazda MX30. A beautiful compact city car with a surprisingly rugged exterior like a catwalk model turned action star, but we are not talking about the exterior when it comes to size, we are talking about the sensational small battery in the Mazda MX30 that not only makes it even more eco-friendly than many competitors in its class, but also means it can still achieve an impressive 0-60mph in 8.8s and a range of 124 miles.

7. MG5 EV
If you are the type of person who appreciates the bumpers on bumper cars, an extra safety line attached to your abseiling harness or cotton and foam instead of flooring, then you will love the safety features of the MG5. So many, a list is the only way to convey it.
- Front side airbags
- Anti-lock Brake System and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
- Electronic Stability Programme
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
- Side curtain airbags
- 3x3 point rear seatbelts
- Seatbelt reminder for driver and front passenger
- Emergency brake assistance
- Hill launch assist
- Rear child locks
- Front seatbelts (3-point + pre tensioner + load limiter)
- Electric parking brake with auto hold function
- Seatbelt reminder for rear passenger seats

6. BYD Dolphin
From the new kids on the block, who are giving Tesla a run for their money and even outselling them towards the end of 2023, the BYD Dolphin is a perfect mix of comfort, style, design and performance. BYD’s origins in the world of battery manufacture have given them the advantage of producing electric vehicles that give more for less. Being as the BYD Dolphin was only released in 2023, there are very few used models on the market, which would explain its low-value drop, but at such a great price for arguably the best brand presently, you should certainly get your smartphone out, with its battery also supplied by BYD, and get behind the wheel of a dolphin.

5. Renault Zoe
In days gone by, cars had names like Mustang, Cavalier or Turbo which would conjure up all kinds of fantasies about the adventures you could take, and even a Panda sounded a little exotic, though cuddly. Now, the fashion is to go for an actual name like the Alpha Romeo Giulia, the Citroen Ami or the Renault Zoe, which may make you wonder if this car is for you if you are called Frank. Well don’t worry, Francis, the nippy Renault Zoe can achieve a top speed of 86.99mph, complete 0-60mph in 9.5s and has a single charge range of 250 miles. Figures sure to impress the fellas down the pub.

4. Nissan Leaf
One of the best actors currently in Hollywood once went by the name Leaf and he has developed incredibly, so it is highly likely if you were to go for the Nissan Leaf, you would ever bother Joaquin anywhere again, and why would you want to? Spacious, comfortable and affordable, the Nissan Leaf is another offering in a long line of innovation and advancement from the name known for reliability and safety.
Take a ‘U-Turn’, ‘Walk the Line’ and ‘Return to Paradise’, listening to ‘Her’ whisper ‘I’m Still Here' on ‘Reservation Road’. ‘Cmon, Cmon’ read the ‘Signs’, this car is ‘To Die For’, so don’t be a ‘Joker’. Also, if you are in the throws of ‘Parenthood’ and a child makes a dash for it, ‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.’ “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?” At Gateway2lease, we enjoy a good Joaquin Phoenix film.

3. Fiat 500
The Fiat 500 may be considered a small car by many, but that is where its beauty lies. The global average height for a male is five foot nine inches and for a female five foot four inches, meaning the Fiat 500 is ideal as the car to navigate the busy city streets, nipping through the smallest of gaps whilst also fitting you in comfortably, like a Tardis. The 500 should be named after its top speed because if you multiply 103.8mph by 4.81, that is exactly what you would have, and combine this with a 0-60mph of a mere 8.5s, you will really have the edge on the urban racetrack.

2. MG4 EV
When you find a company that gets two of its models on our list of lowest-priced electric cars of 2024, then you know they must be getting something right. The people have screamed ‘We’re skint’ and the good folk at MG have listened with the MG4. A perfect family hatchback, with doors for everyone and wheels in the right places. It comes with a similar long list of safety features to the MG5 and a rather snazzy display and infotainment system to give you the illusion you are a part of the space race.
Even the two-tone angled alloy wheels look like the closing of a supervillain’s hi-tech vault. MG claims that EV stands for ‘Electric Vehicle’, but at these prices, surely it means ‘Extraordinary Value’.
New Price: £26,995 | Used Price: £18,900 | Value Drop: 29.99% |

1. Citroen Ami
So, Citroen does find itself on this list twice also, but this one doesn’t really count. Though it is a road-legal electric vehicle, the Citroen Ami is not for everyone. You certainly wouldn’t want to find yourself in the middle of the motorway as a juggernaut rumbles by and your car shakes like King Kong has a grip. However, the Ami does have a time and place where it can really outshine other similar vehicles and this is urban driving, and more specifically providing city driving experience for new drivers.
At a mere 2.4 metres long, it is easily parked in the tightest of spots and has a tiny turning circle of 7.2 metres, allowing drivers to get out of any dead ends. The battery fully charges in a speedy four hours, making it ideal to get you to your first job in time and be full of energy when you finish.
