Game, Set, and Match trim for the Volkswagen range
Volkswagen, the UK’s best-selling new-car brand for the past three years, has announced the return of a bit of an icon. Not in the shape of a new car though, this time it’s the return of a trim level that’s been a feature of the VW range for decades. Match trim is back, offering great value for lease customers with increased kit levels over entry-level models without adding a hefty chunk to the price tag.
The first Volkswagen Match trim first Volkswagen Match trim went on sale in 1985 with the Golf Mk2. VW is now bringing it back on 10 new models across the range.
The Match trim level has long been synonymous with improved specification and great value for money. The new version is now available on a variety of models in Volkswagen’s line-up, including the Polo, the T-Cross and T-Roc compact SUVs, the Taigo coupe, and the Touran MPV. Match trim will also be an option on the new second-generation version of VW’s best-selling car, the Tiguan family SUV.
The latest Match trim level sits above the entry-level Life models (SE Family on the Touran), and despite adding lots of extra equipment it only increases the list price between £175 and £705 depending on which model you’re looking to lease.
Opt for the Polo Match and you’ll add 16-inch alloys, rear view camera, tinted rear windows, and wireless phone charging to the specification.
T-Cross, T-Roc, and Taigo versions get metallic paint, 17-inch alloys, rear view camera, tinted rear windows, and keyless entry.
The new Tiguan Match also gets metallic paint and keyless entry alongside 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, power tailgate function, and a lighting package that adds LED clusters front and rear.
The Touran MPV also gets larger 17-inch alloys, rear view camera, and metallic paint, as well as VW’s light and sight pack, winter pack, and easy open and close pack featuring an electric tailgate.
The news is even better if you’re looking to lease an electric car
That’s because the new Match trim will also be an option on Volkswagen’s EV range for the first time.
Match trim for the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 not only comes with added equipment, but they also benefit from reduced on-the-road prices of up to £4,300. The return of Match trim is also perfectly timed to coincide with the arrival of the all-new new flagship ID.7 range.
And the added specification on electric models is, if anything, even more impressive than the internal combustion models.
All the new EV Match models get the addition of metallic paint, with the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5 also offering 2-zone climate control, rear view camera, and model-specific LED headlight upgrades as well. And that’s just the upgrades they share.
On top of that lot, ID.3 versions will also feature a heated windscreen, heated front seats, and navigation system as standard. ID.4 and ID.5 models both get an electric tailgate and comfort seats with soft velour microfleece upholstery to cushion your bottom. If you opt for the ID.4 version you can also add parking sensors front and rear to the list. Anyone choosing an ID.5 gets to admire how good it looks with larger 19-inch alloys.
As you’d expect from a flagship model, the ID.7 starts with a higher specification than the rest of the EV range so most of the additions to the other ID models will already be standard equipment anyway. That hasn’t stopped VW squeezing in a few extras to the Match trim versions though.
The all-new ID.7 Match will feature a 15-inch navigation and infotainment display, 19-inch alloy wheels, augmented reality head-up display, rear view camera with area view function, privacy glass for the rear windows, and a sensor-controlled luggage compartment with remote unlocking.
