The Nissan Leaf is a good all-rounder when it comes to the world of electric cars.  It has a range of over 200 miles per single charge, making it more than adequate for daily urban commuting and even longer journeys. The Leaf was one of the first electric cars to be mass-produced and has undergone continuous improvement for over a decade. As Nissan was one of the first companies to develop electric vehicles, all their cars benefit from their team's extensive experience.

The current incarnation is the Peugeot 208 which includes the all-electric e-208 model, the winner of the 2020 ‘What Car - Electric Small Car of the Year' award.

Having only launched in the UK in 2022 many people won't be familiar with the ‘Funky Cat' as the Hatch First Edition is known but offering 100% electric, sustainable mobility packed with tech and a premium finish will soon change all that. The stylish looks resemble a chic model from a 1960s James Bond film but the tech inside is entirely modern Q's finest work including voice assistance, fully integrated displays and even facial recognition security systems.

The Funky Cat is all about urban commuting. It has a range of up to 155 miles on a single charge which means it may not suit longer drives but it is not designed to be a tourer. As an all-electric vehicle, it is incredibly eco-friendly and being compact is perfect for shortcuts down inner-city backstreets and weaving through busy traffic.  The Funky Cat also offers customisable options where you can really add your personal touch and then take your chic mobile on a jaunt to Carnaby Street where it would fit in perfectly.

1. Citroen e-C4 Hatch 100kW EV 50kWh Sense

Sitting in the top spot of our list of the top 5 cheapest electric cars to lease in 2023 is the e-C4 Hatch from French giant Citroen. With over 100 years of automotive knowledge and a history of innovation that has developed more than 300 models, Citroen knows what they are doing when it comes to the motor car. The e-C4 is no exception and is a great family car that combines space and performance. It comes with a very useful range of up to 260 miles per single charge and has both AC and DC charging capabilities making it the most efficient car on our list. It also boasts three driving modes, eco, normal and sport, which can be adjusted to perfectly suit your present driving conditions.

When it comes to additional features then the e-C4 has a wide range available. For safety it offers standard features such as multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, advanced driver-assistance and stability control but also a regen B mode that increases the ‘engine braking' feel and efficiency. Citroen is known for its comfort-oriented suspension systems which absorb road imperfections, but in an electric vehicle passenger comfort is enhanced for the smoothest of rides. With an onboard 100kW charger the e-C4 can charge 80% in 30 minutes on a rapid charge and even manage 80% in 50 minutes on the more common 50kW charger.
