Brand-new Skoda Elroq teased
In terms of teaser campaigns, the car industry is in a class of its own. Months before a new car arrives the cryptic ads and social media posts start to appear with a hint of a headlight or a snippet of a spoiler. It’s enough to whet the appetite without actually telling you a single thing about the latest model to join the line-up. A bit like the new Skoda Elroq that’s scheduled for launch this autumn.
Skoda has released the first official silhouette images of the all-new Elroq. This fully-electric compact SUV marks the beginning of Skoda’s e-model campaign that will see the launch of six new EVs over the next few years.
Taking the information Skoda has revealed about the new Elroq we are now in the awkward position of being able to tell you…well, very little actually
The front end of the Skoda Elroq features a new split headlight design that blends elegantly into the front wings, the Skoda name on the bonnet utilises new lettering, the traditional Skoda grille boasts a flatter and wider appearance, and it sits on large wheels for a robust look. It’s also the third Skoda model to be built on VW’s MEB platform after the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe.
And that’s pretty much all the information we’ve got.
The only way we can build on that is by stating the obvious: it’s a compact SUV so it should be spacious, comfortable, and practical; it will sit just below the Enyaq in Skoda’s EV range; it’s a similar size to the combustion-engine Karoq, which is rumoured to be source of the Elroq name, ELectric kaROQ; it follows the same design strategy as the Enyaq so the new Karoq’s interior is likely to feature similar styling and technology; it’s based on the same architecture too, so there are likely to be other similarities in terms of 58kWh and 77kWh batteries with single and dual-motor options.
There are also a few “unofficial” images floating around the internet of the new Skoda Karoq sporting one of those camouflage wraps while it’s out on a test drive of some description.
These don’t add much more to our knowledge of the Karoq but at least you can see the general shape and size. They also reveal a relatively long wheelbase that goes some way to confirming the spaciousness, alloy wheels that look very similar to those available on the Enyaq, a rear roof spoiler, and rear lights that also bear a striking resemblance to the ones you find at the rear of the Enyaq. There’s also some talk of a vRS version of the new Skoda Elroq to follow on from the initial launch.
And that’s about it.
The new Skoda Elroq is an all-electric compact SUV that’s likely to be as popular as the rest of the Skoda range to lease. It should be spacious, comfortable, well-equipped, reasonably priced, and you’ll have to wait until the autumn before you can decide to lease one.
