Brand-new Kia EV3
When you’re on a roll it’s probably wise to stick to the winning formula. With sales on the rise, and the general popularity of the brand following the same upward trajectory, Kia is definitely on that roll. The most obvious sign of this growing success is the number of awards being handed out to its excellent EV models. That all-electric range is now expanding further with the introduction of the brand-new Kia EV3.
Technically, the new EV3 doesn’t actually launch in the UK until later this year, but Kia has recently revealed the details of this new electric compact SUV ahead of the big reveal.
With its combination of bold design, innovative technology, and groundbreaking features, the EV3 aims to set new standards for the compact EV SUV sector.
The Kia EV3 oozes presence with its vertical headlamps, simple and clean surfaces, and a wide stance. The sloping roofline transitions into a hatchback-style tailgate, and in silhouette it gives a hint of the spacious cabin inside that contemporary body. The simplified rear lamp design seamlessly integrates with the rear glass, framing a futuristic tailgate design that takes inspiration from the front lighting signature.
Kia is set to offer the new EV3 in nine body colours – two of which have been created exclusively for the new model: Aventurine Green and Terracotta. The EV3 ‘GT-line’ version also boasts a more rugged look with its contrasting lower body trim, integrated lower bumper, and vertical and horizontal graphics that contrast with the car’s large black-clad areas.
The EV3's interior also offers a spacious cabin that comfortably accommodates five people.
Kia has created a highly functional interior for the new EV3 with a near-30-inch combined widescreen display – it actually consists of a 12.3-inch cluster, a five-inch air-conditioning panel, and another 12.3-inch display – that provides clear information to the driver. The screen also extends to the centre of the dashboard, giving the front-seat passenger access to entertainment and navigation features.
Many of the EV3’s functions such as drive mode, cruise control, entertainment, and navigation, can be accessed via the steering wheel buttons. A row of buttons below the central screen operates various functions like mapping, media, and vehicle system configuration.
An elegant centre console incorporates a practical sliding table and spacious storage area, adjustable ambient lighting sets the mood, and you can relax into the comfortable seats that feature a fold-back relaxation mode. Kia is also offering a wide selection of interior colours, materials, and trim finishes inspired by Air, Earth, and Water elements. Options include Subtle Grey, Warm Grey, Blue, while Onyx Black is available exclusively on ‘GT-line’ trim.
The new EV3 is based on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and makes use of Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology.
The EV3 Standard model will come with a 58.3kWh battery, while the EV3 Long Range variant is fitted with an 81.4kWh battery. Both models utilise a 150kW/204bhp electric motor which should translate to a 0-60mph time of around 7.5 seconds and a top speed of just over 100mph. More than enough for what is essentially a family-oriented SUV.
Up to 370 miles on a charge
As with the larger EV9 SUV, Kia has aimed for optimum efficiency with the EV3. Clever aerodynamics, battery management systems, and the batteries themselves, combine to make the EV3 as energy efficient as possible. The EV3 Long Range provides an estimated range of up to 370 miles, and when the batteries do need recharging you can relax with a coffee in those comfy seats while the advanced charging system tops up the batteries from 10-80% in approximately 30 minutes.
You can also add a whole, and very comprehensive list of safety features, driver aids, and new technology to the mix. The new Kia EV3 even features an AI Assistant, premium streaming services, and over-the-air updates to ensure drivers can always enjoy the most up-to-date experience.
Kia is currently embarking on a global campaign ahead of the official launch of the new EV3 later this year.
With its combination of bold exterior design, roomy and practical interior, innovative technology, and excellent range and efficiency, the new Kia EV3 is likely to prove incredibly popular with lease drivers when it finally arrives.
