Popular Nissan Qashqai gets an update
It seems obvious to say it, but if you don’t keep up you get left behind. In terms of the crossover SUV market, it would be unthinkable for the car that began the whole revolution to not be one of the most popular choices for you to lease. The car in question, the original crossover, is of course the Nissan Qashqai, and it’s just been given a makeover to keep it fresh and contemporary.
The third-generation Qashqai was launched a little over three years ago, and to maintain its class-leading place in the segment it has now received a comprehensive styling refresh and significant technology updates.
The new Qashqai exudes a sharp, dynamic, and modern look thanks to its refreshed design.
The front grille of the Qashqai has been comprehensively updated and the front bumper has also been tweaked. The new headlight design features an even sharper look and the lights now boast an adaptive high beam module complemented by a smaller unit for wider beam distribution, useful for increased visibility in low-light conditions and fog. The rear lights appear largely unchanged at first glance, but new lighting elements and clear lenses help make them brighter and easier to see.
The updated Qashqai also features a new gloss black trim on the door sills and wheel arches, new alloy wheel designs, and new colour options. There’s even a new trim level – N-Design grade – that features bold design touches and unique 20-inch alloy wheels.
The interior trim is equally updated as well.
Higher grades in the new Nissan Qashqai range now feature Alcantara trim on the dashboard, door inserts, door armrests, centre storage console lid and even the knee pads. New patterned materials appear around the centre console around the gear selector and the decoration insert between the upper dashboard and glovebox for an even more premium feel. The addition of ambient lighting on the N-Connecta, N-Design grades and above now allows you to personalise the interior lighting via the infotainment system too.
The updated Qashqai also benefits from a series of technological updates. It features Nissan’s next generation of around view monitor, which should prove very useful for manoeuvring in tight spaces, and a new ‘Minimal’ mode that reduces driver distraction by removing all but the most necessary information from the display.
The refreshed Qashqai is also the first vehicle in Nissan's European range to offer Google built-in. You can access your Google account via the car and use voice commands to operate the climate control, heated seats, heated windscreen, and to access Google Maps for easy navigation. You can also download a whole list of apps from Google Play to personalise your driving experience even further. Safety systems have also been upgraded with improvements to emergency braking, lane assist function, and intelligent speed assistance amongst others.
Nothing stands still for long in the highly competitive crossover segment that Nissan pioneered with the original Qashqai. The challenge for the design, engineering, planning and production teams who have been working on the updated model was how to keep the essence of what people love about the Qashqai, while identifying improvements and innovations that would make it even better.
These updates, alongside the innovative e-POWER electrified powertrain should help maintain the Nissan Qashqai’s position at the top of the pile.
