No Change For New Ford Focus: It's As Good As It's Always Been

New Launches

THIS is the new Ford Focus. It's the same as the last Ford Focus. And the one before that. And the one before…..well you get the idea.

But even better.

The Ford Focus has been around for 20 years now, and the reason it's still around is because Ford hasn't messed around with what has always been an excellent car. It's been updated and had the occasional facelift, received the latest technology and safety systems, but fundamentally it is still the best bet for a mid-size hatchback for anyone between the ages of 17 and 70 (and beyond).

The new Focus is on sale now with first deliveries due in September. You can specify it as either a five-door hatchback or an estate for those needing a little more room. It comes in seven different trim levels, and offers a choice of five petrol and three diesel options. Depending on your chosen engine you also get to pick either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. You can also choose from 13 different exterior paint colours, not to mention an extensive options list. The new Focus is all about the choice.

If safety and comfort are your concern then you'll also be happy with the updated driver aids that include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, adaptive lighting, head-up display, emergency braking and steering, and park assist.

If environmental concerns rank highly then you should be glad to hear about the Stop/Start technology, fuel saving technology that can automatically stop one engine cylinder if the power isn't needed, and a number of other fuel and efficiency systems. Emissions figures from 107g/km (petrol) and 91g/km (diesel) suggest Ford have done a good job in this department.

If you're looking for technology in your Focus then you'll love the Wi-Fi hotspot that can connect up to 10 devices and stream entertainment on the move, eight-inch colour touchscreen, wireless charging pad, Apple and Android connectivity, and the 675 watt B&O sound system.

If you're a driving enthusiast you can make the most of the new chassis designed to improve handling, the improved suspension and dampers, stiffer body, and selectable drive modes. With up to 180bhp from the range of engines there's also scope for decent performance as well as good handling.

You can probably see what we're getting at by now. If you're looking for a decent sized hatchback that can fulfil many different criteria - and look good whilst doing so - then the Ford Focus has been one of the more obvious options for a very long time. The latest 2018 version simply carries on where the last model left off.

If that's not enough Ford has also announced that the new Focus will actually be cheaper than the old one too. Prices for the entry level Focus Style start at just over £17k, a saving of more than £2,000 on the model it replaces. That's excellent news for lease customers looking to replace their current vehicle over the next few months. Not only can you benefit from the updates but it could save you a few quid on the monthly rental too.

So, the new Ford Focus. It's better than the old one. Cheaper than the old one. More economical than the old one. More tech than the old one. And even better than the old one.
